Our towns and cities are losing their vibrant heart. The rise of online giants, the dominance of supermarkets and retail parks, a shift towards at-home lifestyles, and the demand for instant convenience have all contributed to a decline in footfall for local businesses.
Once cherished by loyal customers, independent shops and businesses are being left behind in favour of quick clicks, bulk buys, and chain-store convenience.
This isn't just an economic issue - it's a societal challenge. Local businesses are more than places to shop; they're the backbone of our communities, adding character, creating jobs, and supporting our well-being.
At Sustain Local, we're on a mission to reverse this trend. By showcasing the unique value of local businesses and reconnecting consumers with their communities, we aim to inspire one simple shift: think "local first".

Sustain Local was launched in December 2024 and created by a passionate group of individuals who live in Derbyhire & South Yorkshire. Many of our team grew up in the towns and villages of Derbyshire & South Yorkshire and all of us care deeply about our communities, which makes the apparent decline of local high streets all the more heartbreaking. In short, we believe this downturn in local shops and businesses is largely down to 3 factors:
Sustain Local is a brand of Creativity Sells Ltd, a Chesterfield-based company established in 2006. While we have traditionally focused on the motorcycle and automotive sectors, that changes now.
Over the past 20 years, we have worked with a handful of local independent businesses, mostly through referrals, and we are proud to say we are still supporting them to this day. However, it has become increasingly clear how hard it is for independent retailers to survive.
So, we figured we would use our 20 years of experience to try and help revitalise local communities, reminding local consumers about what makes their local shops and businesses so amazing. We've launched a 'Local Business Directory', that's totally free and exclusive to independent local businesses to add their profiles. Our mission is to grow the directory, along with our social channels to promote local businesses within their communities, and ultimately restore the footfall and vibrancy of local towns and communities.
Whilst we are putting the effort into all the marketing and technology behind the scenes, it is YOU who is the driving force behind the Sustain Local mission. It is YOU who has the power to spread the word and show your appreciation to local independent businesses. It is YOU who has the power to decide to pop down to your local independent business.
